Why are US trucks different to European?
There are a number of reasons that the trucks are different, mainly having to do with length limits, emissions regulations, protectionist safety laws and axle weight regulations (though these have an affect more between states in the US and countries in Europe ).
Are American trucks more powerful than European?

Why do American trucks have less horsepower?
1. American pushrod engines generally have lower redlines than overhead cam engines. Horsepower is proportional to torque multiplied by rpm, so if you can rev your engine higher and still maintain torque, you can produce more power. The limiting factor to how fast an engine can rev is usually the valvetrain.
